The seminar and the film screening are part of a broader initiative called “Sguardi Musicali: progetti di etnomusicologia audiovisiva”, launched in 2018 by the Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies of the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice with the aim of promoting training activities and production support in the field of audiovisual and multimedia ethnomusicology. This year’s edition includes a seminar scheduled from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Ca’ Foscari University students on the theme “Filming ritual”, with the participation of anthropologists, ethnomusicologists and filmmakers. In the afternoon, from 3 to 6 p.m., three documentary films will be presented (Gũlā: Music of a Sacred Time, 2022, 14′; Dance for the dead of Bhaktapur, Gert-Matthias Wegner, 1989, 20′; Devagan, Shan Du, 2023, 75′, the latter in the presence of the director). Screenings are free, subject to availability.
