Sergio “SirJoe” Polito, guitarist and singer who has been active for many years on the Italian rock and blues scene – we remember him in particular as a member of the B-Wops group, which released two albums in the nineties – is now proposing this interesting and refined project, My Friend Ry (title of the album released at the end of 2021 by Gutenberg Music / Caligula), in which he expertly delves into the many languages of American popular music: folk, blues, tex-mex and more. Polito reinterprets some songs by one of the most famous and appreciated musicians, but also producers, of the musical universe of the last half century, Ry Cooder, without falling into the trap of the slavish reproposition of songs made immortal in the original interpretation of the author to whom it is paid homage. An arduous and by no means easy operation, the one performed by Polito, but which in the end can be considered perfectly successful, also thanks to the presence of prestigious guests such as the American multi-instrumentalist Jeff Pevar, the Canadian harmonica player Butch Coulter, as well as the pianist and English singer Paul Millns. On this occasion live the “unplugged” version of the excellent band that recorded the album, with Sergio “SirJoe” Polito on vocals and acoustic guitar, Alberto Boscolo on electric guitar and backing vocals, Gianni Spezzamonte electric bass and vocals.
