The first date at Laguna Libre features the Trio Squelini, one of the most fascinating groups on the European ethno-jazz scene. Hailing from Hungary, a land of fertile contamination between popular, classical and jazz music, the Squelini boldly explore a wide range of styles, from jazz to popular music to contemporary. The group’s leader, Szabolcs Szőke, is a master of ethnic instruments such as the gadulka, sarangi and array mbira. His career, which began with the group Kolinda, acclaimed in France with performances at prestigious venues such as L’Olympia and the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, is studded with illustrious collaborations, including those with trumpeter David Boato and double bassist Ares Tavolazzi.
