The City is Lost. The Venice of John Ruskin, a new film by Alessandra Lancellotti, is a story dedicated to the cultural legacy of Ruskin’s experience in Venice in the 19th century. Produced by Caucaso, a film company with a curriculum that includes authoritative international festivals, together with FoRS – Focus on Ruskin Studies, a centre of the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, the film is the result of academic research combined with the tools of cinema. During 2024, the FoRS – Focus on Ruskin Studies research centre of the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice promoted the project Ruskin in presentday Venice, with the aim of investigating through a documentary film the relationship between Ruskin and his city of choice through the arts. The outcome of the project is the film written and directed by Alessandra Lancellotti, with the support of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the Politecnico di Torino and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, where it will be screened on 22 May, followed by a second screening on 6 June in the UniSve spaces (Dorsoduro, 3077).
