On the occasion of the inauguration of the Architecture Biennale, on Saturday 20 May at the “Lo Squero” Auditorium of the Giorgio Cini Foundation on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, a concert will be staged with pianist and composer Antonio Fresa, former concert season, together with Ninon Valder, who in addition to being a famous flautist and singer is one of the very few known female bandoneonists. Entitled Vatican Chapels Still Alive, the concert includes pieces by Antonio Fresa taken from the Soundtrack Experience of The Borges Labyrinth and Vatican Chapels reworked for piano, bandoneon, flutes and voice.
The listening journey, which explores and recounts the link between places of art and music, starts from the experience that allowed the first meeting between the two musicians, which took place for a sound project of the Borges Labyrinth, on the island of San Giorgio in Venice. This sound installation, which is still present in San Giorgio, provides for a visitor’s journey through the labyrinth guided by a soundtrack specially composed by Antonio Fresa on headphones. A suite for bandoneon and orchestra, performed and recorded by the Orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice with Ninon Valder at the bandoneon. From this meeting a fruitful artistic collaboration between the two musicians arose, including the four-hand composition for two documentaries for the French TV Arte and some concerts in Paris, Rome and Venice.
Vatican Chapels, a soundtrack experience is the soundtrack with the music composed by Antonio Fresa for the audio guides of the Vatican Chapels, the ten chapels of the Giorgio Cini Foundation, built as a diffused Vatican City pavilion, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice , on the occasion of the 2018 Architecture Biennale.
