A composer who left her native Rome to study at Milan, Paris, Harvard and to later move to Berlin, where she now resides. Iannotta builds her compositions starting with a sound idea, a vibrating image in space that helps her manipulate orchestral instruments. As we listen to Moult, we are reminded of the complexity of wine, the jarring of earthly layers, or of a swarm of memories from afar that now come to visit us. In fact, Moult is about animals, spiders in particular, which Iannotta often saw during her residency at Villa Medici, in Rome. The idea is temporality laying upon another, a mutation that leaves a tangible sign on earlier bodies. On October 7, at Ca’ Giustinian, her composition A failed entertainment (2013) will be performed by the Kandinsky Quartet.
