On the occasion of its centenary, the Università Iuav di Venezia presents 100 Drawings for 100 Years, an exhibition promoted by the Archivio Progetti Iuav and curated by Gabriella Liva, Marzia Marandola and Gundula Rakowitz. Hosted at Magazzino 6, the exhibition retraces the history of the university through one hundred drawings – largely drawn from the Archivio Progetti Iuav – documenting a century of architectural practices and languages. Sketches, urban studies, diagrams and project drawings reveal the evolution of tools and themes within the discipline, while reaffirming the central role of drawing as a means of prefiguration, investigation and construction of architectural thought.
A chronological line guides visitors from 1926 to the present, highlighting key moments and figures in the history of the institution and of Italian architectural culture. Among the works on display are drawings connected to figures such as Carlo Scarpa, whose layered and meticulous graphic practice exemplifies the dialogue between idea and construction. Many of the drawings focus on Venice itself, approached as a privileged field of study where architecture, urban landscape and cultural heritage intersect.
