Mariano Fortuny was born into an art family in Granada, Spain, on May 11, 1871. He later moved with his mother and sister in Paris, where he took painting classes with Benjamin Constant and sculpture classes with Rodin. In 1889, he moved to Venice, where he would settle for life. A painter, engraver, bookbinder, sculptor, photographer, architect, and inventor, Mariano Fortuny was a free spirit, passionate, and absolutely modern. Don’t miss the chance to see what genius means on February 17 and 18, thanks to extended hours at Palazzo Fortuny (until 9pm). On the same days, the International Modern Art Gallery at Ca’ Pesaro will also extend their opening hours, take advantage to see art by Rodin, Klimt, Balla, and more.
