The exhibition, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, presents a recent series of large-scale paintings by Georg Baselitz, one of the leading figures of German painting in the second half of the twentieth century. Set against flat gold backgrounds that evoke medieval icons and the painting of Stefan Lochner, the works feature nude figures, self-portraits, and portraits of the artist’s wife Elke. Drawn with diluted black paint and calligraphic marks, the images recall the painting and graphic work of Katsushika Hokusai, while the use of gold introduces an unexpected dialogue with the European iconographic tradition. The exhibition is realized in partnership with Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac.
Open daily from 11 am to 7 pm, closed on Wednesdays. Admission is free.
