In the year of the Venice Biennale, the International Gallery of Modern Art at Ca’ Pesaro celebrates Jenny Saville with her first major exhibition in Venice, tracing the artist’s career from her early works in the 1990s to her most recent pieces, created specifically for the lagoon city. Born in Cambridge in 1970 and trained between Glasgow and Cincinnati, Saville has engaged in dialogue with the great masters of the past and modern figurative painting, exploring the fundamentals of painting as well as contemporary debates around the body and social perception. Curated by Elisabetta Barisoni, with the support of Gagosian, the exhibition presents thirty paintings, including masterpieces that mark her production, offering a unique encounter between the artist’s monumental canvases and Venice’s artistic heritage, celebrating the power of contemporary painting and the city’s role as a vibrant center of cultural innovation.
