Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy is at the heart of the pictorial exploration of German conceptual artist Niclas Castello (b. 1978). The project, which began in 2022, comprises over 220 drawings that translate Dante’s journey into a contemporary visual language. A meeting point between literature, history and visual art, the works are a deeply personal interpretation of the Divine Comedy and reflect on the relationship between individual experience and collective history as Castello draws on his past experiences to shape them on the canvas.
