Flooded Souls is the result of a long research and investigation project dedicated to the Venetian lagoon system, a fragile and unique ecosystem in the world. The exhibition consists of fifteen still lifes of fish from the Venice Lagoon, printed on canvas, which were submerged in various parts of the lagoon and left underwater for a period of 6 to 8 weeks to macerate, becoming covered in algae, mud, microorganisms, and mollusks. Depending on their exposure to light, the currents, and the depth of submersion, the ‘rescued’ works tell the story of the lagoon’s condition and its level of pollution.
