In the Renaissance-era setting of Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, a contemporary narrative unfolds through the work of Patrick Saytour (Nice, 1935 – Aubais, 2023), a leading figure of French experimental painting since the 1960s. The exhibition Le pli et le temps, curated by Daniela Ferretti, presents his research on folds, burns, cuts and sun exposed fabrics, all materials that resist fixed form and create an existential vocabulary. The palace’s decorated rooms, views of the Grand Canal, stuccoes and floors become counterpoints to Saytour’s fragile surfaces. His works engage the solidity of architecture in a dialogue of echoes and contrasts, where vulnerability meets permanence.
Each room becomes a threshold: a space to be felt before it is seen.
