PIER ALFEO. POSSIBLE INFINITIES

16 October 2025

-

30 November 2025

Between music, visual arts, architecture, and technology, Possible Infinities by Pier Alfeo transforms Carlo Scarpa’s Garden at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia into a sound and visual landscape in constant metamorphosis. The work, second chapter of the Biomimesi (2/7) series, is a site-specific and multi-channel installation freely inspired by Luigi Nono’s composition A Carlo Scarpa, architetto, ai suoi infiniti possibili.
In dialogue with the geometries of space and the vibrations of sound, Alfeo creates a hybrid organism that reflects the delicate balance between nature and machine. The installation moves and withdraws like the Selaginella, a plant capable of “coming back to life” after dehydration, evoking a perpetual cycle of transformation. The Biomimesi series stems from computational studies on musical scores and gives rise to hybrid sound sculptures generated by advanced algorithmic systems.
At the technological core of the project is the MCDSBA framework (Markov Chain Driven Structural Blooming Algorithms), developed by Alfeo together with Francesco Vitucci at the “N. Piccinni” Conservatory in Bari. The algorithm translates musical scores into three-dimensional graphs, generating new sequences consistent with the original harmony — a process of musical reincarnation that merges mathematics and organic sensitivity.
Presented during the BAIFF – Burano Artificial Intelligence Film Festival, the installation is on view from 17 October to 30 November 2025 as a collateral event of the eighth edition of the Luigi Nono Festival, Frammenti, dedicated to promoting the Venetian composer’s legacy through music, visual arts, and performance.
Pier Alfeo (Molfetta, 1985) is a sound artist and composer. His research explores the dialogue between algorithmic systems and natural phenomena, creating soundscapes where technology becomes a living, poetic material.
