The exhibition refers to the historic 1571 naval battle of Lepanto between the Holy League and the Ottoman Empire where hundreds of Gitano people from Spain and Roma people from Italy were used as slaves to row the galleys. Curated by Moritz Pankok, the exhibition is a collective installation by Roma artists – Luna de Rosa, Manolo Gómez, Dariya Kanti, Damian Le Bas, Brunn Morais, Girolamo Porro, Alfred Ullrich, Kálmán Várady – that rewrites history, taking an open approach that uses art to confront the European public with its past, offering a new vision of an inclusive Europe.
