Bringing together nearly 80 paintings, documents and work tools, the exhibition explores the central role of sound in the visual and existential universe of Hans Hartung, a talented dancer and pianist in his youth and obsessive devotee of music. From Bach to Pink Floyd via composers like Lili Boulanger, a landscape of energies, movement and resonance permeates his entire oeuvre. His paintings are imbued with a sonic climate of vocal or instrumental rhythms, harmonies and explosions, which, though silent, secrete melodic flows from their very fibres.
