Art by Bellini, Titian, Tintoretto, Bassano, Veronese, Carpaccio was among the collection once belonging to Venetian noblewoman Marina Nani Donà (1711–1790), who in turn inherited it from the Nani branch of her family. At her death, Marina left her art collection to a local charity, but it was lost after the fall of Venice in the late 1700s. An exhibition at Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo puts back together part of it – 28 pieces out of the original 97 – and will tell us more about its fascinating story. Included in the collection is a portrait of Marina by an unknown artist, and a biblical cycle by different artists, though showing obvious stylistic unity, arguably a commission intended for the décor of a single room at the Palazzo.
