A series of large-scale watercolor paintings that delve into the historical, biological, and environmental dimensions of the subjects depicted in the Ateneo Veneto collection, focusing in particular on the figure of the lion in Tintoretto’s Apparition of the Virgin to Saint Jerome (c. 1580). In the search for analogies between past and present, Walton Ford’s paintings overlay intricate representations of natural history with a contemporary critical reading, all rendered in the style of the great masters’ work.
