Here it is, finally beginning! “Over-culture” arrives in Venice, and artists and artworks are blossoming everywhere, infusing the city and all of us with a surge of vital, much-needed energy. As a manifesto for this new season – also a tribute to women – we have chosen the monumental figures of Jenny Saville at Ca’ Pesaro. They occupy the space in a way that forces the gaze to confront a presence that allows no escape, while the skin becomes a terrain of chromatic stratifications and revisions, incised by a mark that digs in and corrects itself with obsessive insistence. The body thus becomes a privileged field of inquiry, a site of intense dialogue with tradition and at the same time a surface traversed by contemporary debates.
