Original scores and 36 pieces for more than two hours of music, in an unmissable concert created through a collaboration between RAI and the musician’s family.
On December 5, 1982, an epoch of renowned TV drama by Italian state broadcaster RAI came to an end: Marco Polo by Giuliano Montaldo hit the screens. The production is notable for being the first Chinese/western cooperation. It was co-funded by the American NBC and P&G, Japanese Tentsu and TBS, and by China’s CCAA. The idea came to the then-RAI director after meeting an Italian legate to China, who told of Chinese appreciation for the figure of Marco Polo, considered an “Italian who is friends with China”. Film seemed a good way to relax relationships with the East.
The series’ soundtrack is a memorable creation by Ennio Morricone, and it will be performed live in Venice for the 700 since Marco Polo’s death on June 29. Performers for Ennio Morricone – Marco Polo Soundtrack include the Cantori Veneziani chorus conducted by Danilo Rossi, also violist at the Scala Theatre in Milan. Zen Production and Veneto Jazz will co-produce, and will enjoy the patronage of the City of Venice. The show embraces a rich heritage of music, cinema, and history. Special thanks go to RAI, who licensed imagery, and to the Morricone family, who loaned the original scores.
