The first edition of the Theatre Biennale produced by ricci/forte in 2021, dedicated to the colour blue, ended with the Biennale College Teatro awarding ceremony for authors under 40. Tolja Djokovic and Giacomo Garaffoni will be back this year, for the 50th edition, to present their work in cooperation with Milan’s Piccolo Teatro.
Born in Rome and now living in Milan, Djokovic founded company tostacarusa in 2019, where she is playwright and director. Her first show was Quirk of Fate. In 2020, she wrote Teresa e la Notte, and in 2021, she co-authored Per la città dolente, a production of Teatro Metastasio in Prato (Florence). Her project for Biennale College, En Abyme, will be staged on June 27 at Arsenale, and in the opinion of ricci/forte, it is the play that more than any other responded to Blue’s theme, which is immersing into one’s self.
On June 28, Giacomo Garaffoni will stage his Veronica. The playwright, director, and artist defines his research an ‘observation on emptiness’, on what is left of modern world after the collapse of identities. Garaffoni started his career as a performer with Teatro Valdoca, Societas Raffaello Sanzio, Catellucci, and Silvia Costa. In 2020, he founded Indocile Collettivo with Michele Ambroni and Sofia Rossi, with whom he worked on a mix of visual and performance art. Veronica is about the female universe and essential questions: eleven brides survive war and, during a eulogy, lose themselves into a wave of shared humanity.
