From 21 to 23 February, a film-concert tells of a unique encounter: the Charlot and the French compositional genius have much more in common than one might think. The Bru Zane audience discovers this with a performance that connects the musical universe with the cinematic one.
Heard the latest news? Motion pictures… with sound! Yes, it’s the roaring Twenties, and cinema now comes with sound, courtesy of a live orchestra playing their music while you enjoy your flick. On February 21, 22, and 23, The Masquerader (1914) by Charlie Chaplin will give us a glimpse of the comedy genius’ behind-the-scenes profile. We will also see Chaplin in A Burlesque on Carmen (1916), an homage and parody of a film by Cecil B. DeMille released the year prior. The screening will be accompanied by a piano commentary by Gabriele Dal Santo, based on Bizet’s composition. This is but a first taste of the upcoming Bizet programme at Palazzetto Bru Zane from March 29 to May 16.
