The beauty of the uncertain

In Between Art Film, a choral vision of shaded areas
by Mariachiara Marzari

Inspired by the rarefied atmosphere of Venice and the hybrid architecture of the Ospedaletto complex and the Church of Santa Maria dei Derelitti, Penumbra is the manifesto exhibition that the In Between Art Film Foundation, the institution founded and chaired by Beatrice Bulgari, has decided to present to the international public of the Biennale Arte, a very complex project and we are sure, one of the most surprising and anticipated of this new season.

Taking inspiration from Venice’s atmosphere and the hybrid architecture of the Ospedaletto and Santa Maria dei Derelitti Church, Penumbra stages a reflection both on moving as a space of material and metaphorical transformation, and on the conditions to make them visible, i.e., an almost total absence of light.

Curated by Alessandro Rabottini and Leonardo Bigazzi, Penumbra features eight original video installations commissioned to Karimah Ashadu (1985, UK), Jonathas de Andrade (1982, Brazil), Aziz Hazara (1992, Afghanistan), He Xiangyu (1986, China), Masbedo (Nicolò Massazza, 1973 and Iacopo Bedogni, 1970, Italy), James Richards (1983, UK), Emilija Škarnulyte (1987, Lithuania), and Ana Vaz (1986, Brazil). All works are commissioned and produced by Fondazione In Between Art Film.
