From February 19 to 28, Venice is reflected in great auteur comics, through exhibitions and meetings with artists who, standing on the shoulders of giants, look toward the future of illustrated storytelling.
Venice’s deep connection with comics is celebrated through three events during “Venezia Città Invisibile,” a week dedicated to the art form from February 19–28. The program highlights the city’s unique blend of dream and reality, famously depicted in Hugo Pratt’s Corto Maltese stories. The initiative, led by ComicOut and local artists, includes: “Celestia,” an exhibition at Spazio Badoer featuring Manuele Fior’s original large-format boards depicting a dystopian Venice; a gallery at Zazà bookstore with comic interpretations of Italo Calvino’s works; and a study morning at Ca’ Foscari on February 26, exploring Calvino’s “Invisible Cities” with artists and scholars. The week also pays tribute to the historic IMMAGINARIA festival, recalling its themes and legacy with guests like Giorgio Cavazzano.
