Welcome to Palazzo

A new exhibition brings Palazzo Vendramin Grimani’s history back to life
by Mariachiara Marzari

“Di storie e di arte” unveils three centuries of life inside Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, now home to the Fondazione dell’Albero d’Oro. Paintings, furnishings, documents, books, and garments offer a glimpse into the daily rituals and refined tastes of the families who lived here from the 17th to the 20th century.

An early Renaissance Palazzo stands out, among the several facing the Grand Canal, for its three-section façade decorated with Corinthian chapiters and clad in Istria marble in its entirety, which gives it incredible luminosity. The origins of the Palazzo go as far back as to the 1100s, though the extant building was given its shape in the 1500s. Many Venetian noble families called it home, each living a deposit in form of art and exquisite taste. After four years of research work, an exhibition will allow us to live the Palazzo and its majestic ambiance. Modern art and antique décor, books, clothes make up Of Stories and Art: Three Centuries of Life at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani. Curate by Massimo Favilla and Ruggero Rugolo, the exhibition will be open April 12 to November 23.
