BULGARIA

An interactive multimedia installation recreates the homes of survivors of political violence during the communist era in Bulgaria, shedding light on their long-untold memories through fragments of original audio-video recordings. The project is the result of twenty years of historical research and ethnographic investigations telling both the violence suffered by people and the deep scars left on their bodies and minds by arrests and imprisonments. Its aim is to highlight  the consequences of decades of deliberate silence on state violence and the absence of memory in contemporary public consciousness.
