The works of Indian artists Madhvi Parekh and Manu Parekh engage in dialogue with the lacework from Mumbai’s Chanakya School of Craft, a non-profit institution committed to promoting the social empowerment of women through handicraft. Just as the works of these two artists celebrate traditional Indian myths – where the spiritual dimension catalyzes a powerful imagination and creativity – in the same way, the pieces created by the Chanakya School of Craft under the artistic direction of Karishma Swali go beyond the conventional boundaries of applied arts in order to create an original artistic language firmly rooted in Indian cultural history.
