The Ivorian Pavilion brings together five artists from different technical and stylistic backgrounds coordinated by the Cameroonian writer, art critic, and curator Simon Njami. He presented the project by stating: “Did Africans deported to the Americas and elsewhere feel despair when they realized that the path of return was forever closed to them? Maybe. But they turned their despair and the loss of their “mother tongue” into an act of absolute resilience: the blue note, which […] is what allows us to sing loneliness and the fatigue of life but also hope. It is the note that allowed Africans to survive and live”.
