Inspired by lay preacher Hermano Puli’s life and cultural influence, whose enigmatic words appear in the title of the exhibition, Mark Salvatus offers an in-depth analysis of the ethnoecologies of Mount Banahaw. This wooded mountain region on the border with Lucban, the artist’s hometown, is the place chosen by Puli to found a revolutionary and anticolonialist organization exclusively for Filipino natives. By channeling the mystic energy from mountain, Salvatus analyses the roles of art and music within wider political contexts, focusing in particular on the lively traditions of Babat musicians from Lucban.
