Marked by an itinerant childhood, lacking conventional stability, Eddie Martines found in drawing a sense of continuity and home during his family’s frequent movings across the United States, becoming the driving force for his paintings and sculptures. His inclination to “steal” fragments of images and themes comes from his nomadic background. Traces of the landscapes he went through constantly appear in his iconography. The neologism in the title suggests both the theme of physical and cultural nomadism, and a play on phonetics , more specifically on its American pronunciation that sounds like “no matter.” Both meanings resonate in the artist’s work and imagery.
