The exhibition takes the shape of an archive dedicated to public structures designed by local architects – composite buildings, residential centers, markets, and public housing – which, though little documented or known abroad, have played a fundamental role in the urban and social development of Hong Kong. Between vernacular villages and civic architecture, the exhibition preserves the memory of a fragile heritage, destined to influence the city’s future. Meanwhile, a traditional bamboo scaffolding, built by Shifu masters, creates a dialogue between the industrial history of Venice and Hong Kong’s building culture, evoking the shared precariousness of both cities between the built and the natural.
