NEW ZEALAND

The artist directs the viewer’s gaze upward, making large portraits of birds central to the Pavilion – creatures that hold deep cultural and spiritual significance within Māori tradition, of which she is a member. These taxidermied birds, preserved in museums in New Zealand and Australia, evoke the fragility of their fate, now dramatically threatened by human impact and colonization, becoming spiritual messengers capable of connecting the world of the living with that of the dead.
