SU XIAOBAI’S ALCHEMICAL UNIVERSE

A selection of thirty-five paintings goes through Su Xiaobai’s research from 2003 until  now, based on the use of natural lacquer as a pictorial medium. Overlapping, incised and abraded layers create thick and tactile monochrome surfaces, where dark tones and shades of grey define a meditative dimension. At the heart of the exhibition is the Niao Niao series, which explores transience and evanescence through a process of material transformation.
