Across installation, interactive practices, and painting, the artists weave together approaches ranging from scientific modelling to folkloric imagination, from monumental textile to meticulous craftsmanship. The project draws on the work of writer Allayar Darmenov, who since 2015 has imagined bringing the Aral Sea “back to life” through writing, turning imagination into form of action. The exhibition reflects on the environmental transformations of a region marked by the drastic shrinking of the Aral Sea, largely dried up after diverting rivers for irrigation purposes.
