Inspired by Chris Marker’s 1962 science fiction film La Jetée, British director Asif Kapadia crafts a documentary set in a dystopian future where the planet has to face major challenges. Authentic news footage is seamlessly integrated into a science fiction framework, creating a fusion of documentary and fiction that defies traditional classification.
Born in London but of Pakistani origin, Asif Kapadia is a director and a producer. His film debut occurred in 2001 with The Warrior shot in Hindi, which earned him numerous awards. Success followed in 2015 with Amy, a documentary about Amy Winehouse that portrays the singer’s life from an intimate and tragic perspective. The biopic was presented at the Cannes Film Festival and later won an Oscar for Best Documentary. His latest film, Diego Maradona (2019), received numerous international accolades.
