(2023, USA, 80')

After a mainstream streak with his two latest feature, Spring Breakers of 2012 and Beach Bum of 2019, Harmony Korine is now back to art film with rapper Travis Scott in his film debut. An interesting infrared picture evokes a wild-eyed portrait of a tormented killer, a sensual, experimental elegy by Harmony Korine, who worked on a surreal, psychedelic sensorial experience that deformed images by tweaking colours and amplifying the grotesque atmosphere of the film with a hammering techno soundtrack.

Harmony Korine

One of the most controversial American indie directors, Harmony Korine is one to change our film experience by taking us into a world of experimentation adjacent to that of video art. His innovative aesthetics were clearly defined in his debut feature, Gummo, presented at Settimana della Critica in 1997 and now a cult movie. Two years later, again at the VFF, Korine presented his second feature: Julien Donkey-Boy (1999), made following the Dogma 95 manifesto. The filmmaker also participated in the Venice Art Biennale in 2003 with an untitled artist’s manifesto and in 2011 with short movie Caput, starring James Franco.
