Based on the 1928 novel by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, Manji returns to the screens after the restoration of the Kadokawa Corporation. The novel was first published in the Japanese magazine Kaizō and was subsequently adapted to film several times: it was directed in 1964 by the talented Japanese director and screenwriter Yasuzô Masumura and reappeared on screens in 1983, with a version defined pornographic, then in 1998 and subsequently in 2006 before arriving at this year’s edition of the festival.
