A story of female emancipation in Sudan told through the eyes of Nafisa, a teenager raised on tales of resistance against British colonizers told by her grandmother. The peace of her village, built around a cotton farm, is suddenly threatened by the arrival of a businessman proposing some new project for the region. It falls to Nafisa to take charge and defend the community’s balance, embarking on a journey that marks her transition from girl to woman. The Sudanese-Russian filmmaker received recognition for the film’s executive project at the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéfondation Atelier in 2022.
