The film, based on the book Io volevo ucciderla by Adolfo Ceretti – one of Italy’s leading criminologists – written in collaboration with Lorenzo Natali, is co-scripted by the director with Bruno Oliviero and Valia Santella. Set between South Tyrol and Canton Ticino, it recounts the true story of Elisa, a young woman from a respectable family who brutally murdered her sister. Imprisoned for ten years, she is gradually led to confront her responsibility through a long series of meetings with a criminologist, an advocate of the so-called “restorative justice” approach.
Italian director and screenwriter, born in Ischia in 1958, he debuted with L’intervallo (2012), winning the 2013 David di Donatello for Best New Director. Ariaferma (2021), presented Out of Competition in Venice, won David di Donatello awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actor for Silvio Orlando. In 2023, he returned to Venice Out of Competition with Welcome to Paradise.
