(2024, Italy, 120')
Based on Luigi Celeste’s book Non sarà sempre così (published by Piemme), the film tells the autobiographical story of the author, who shares a deep bond with his mother Licia and his brother Alessandro, all of whom experience a shared sense of abandonment, pain, and anger. For nearly ten years, they have not seen Franco, their father and partner, who turned the childhood of the two children and Licia’s youth into a memory filled with fear and domination. One day, Franco returns, wanting his children and his family back…
This is the second feature by Francesco Costabile, who with a profound perspective tells a story that is not easy to convey. His debut film, Una femmina (2022), competed at the 2022 Berlin Film Festival in the Panorama section and won two Globo d’Oro, the foreign press awards for Italian cinema, for Best Italian Debut and Best Performance (Lina Siciliano).
