Maggie Gyllenhaal returns to the Venice Film Festival as President of the International Jury, five years after winning the Best Screenplay award on the Lido with The Lost Daughter, her directorial debut. Following her second feature, The Bride!, released earlier this year, she now signs a short film dedicated to Marilyn Monroe on the centenary of her birth, revisiting the phrase with which the actress once described her extraordinary presence on screen. Portraying her are not one but two performers: Dakota Johnson embodies Marilyn at the height of her fame, while Ellen Burstyn – Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement 2026 – brings to life the icon the world never had the chance to truly know.
