Summer of 1996, coast of Alagoas, in northeastern Brazil. In a small fishing village, Guaxuma, fourteen-year-old Tamara enjoys her holidays before she’ll have to move to Brasilia for prep school. One day, she hears of a Guaxuma girl with a strange scar on her chest. She is called ‘Heartless’. Tamara soon starts to feel a growing attraction for this mysterious girl.
Born in Guaxuma, Nara Normande later moved to Recife, a hotspot for young Brazilian filmmakers. Normande debuted with short movie Dia Estrelado in 2011. In 2014, she produced another short movie, Sem Coração with Tião. The film was selected at the Quinzaine des réalisateurs in Cannes and won the Illy Prize. In 2018, she produces Guaxuma a poetic animated short that blends different techniques, all based on the use of sand. The work won awards in Toronto, Amsterdam, Annecy, Ottawa. Like her earlier works, her feature film Heartless was born of her memories of her birthplace and childhood
