(2025, USA, UK, Italy, 132')
An intimate, generational comedy, laced with irony and tinged with drama, written by Noah Baumbach together with Greta Gerwig. A lightning-fast road movie, unfolding over the course of a single weekend, it proves both surprising and deeply meaningful for two middle-aged friends traveling across Europe (with much of the film shot in Italy). The protagonists, Jay Kelly (George Clooney), a successful actor in the midst of an identity crisis, and his manager Ron (Adam Sandler), between laughter, mishaps, and memories, are forced to confront the choices they have made and the consequences of who they have become.
An American director and screenwriter, Noah Baumbach (New York, 1969) made his debut in 1995 with Kicking and Screaming. In 2004 he co-wrote The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou with Wes Anderson, and the following year directed The Squid and the Whale. His subsequent works include Margot at the Wedding (2007), Greenberg (2010), and While We’re Young (2014). In 2015 he presented the documentary De Palma in Venice, and in 2017 competed at Cannes with The Meyerowitz Stories. He has been in competition at Venice three times: in 2019 with Marriage Story (six Academy Award nominations and one Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, Laura Dern), in 2022 with White Noise, and this year with Jay Kelly.
