“The horrific attack on 7th October and the ensuing war unleashed unimaginable suffering, defying comprehension. The humanity, or denial of humanity, within them is profoundly disturbing. Can these events even be represented, recounted, narrated?” With this chilling awareness, director Dani Rosenberg begins filming in the Nir Oz kibbutz in the aftermath of the brutal Hamas attack. The story he tells delves into the horrors etched into the place through the eyes of Dar, a sixteen-year-old girl who returns to her kibbutz at dawn in search of her dog, missing after the massacre she herself survived. Not far from there, beyond the Gaza fence, a relentless cycle of death and destruction is beginning, which Dar witnesses, caught between those seeking revenge and those who, despite everything, still cling to a glimmer of faith in humanity.
After his initial short films, Dani Rosenberg (Tel Aviv, 1979) directed the feature film The Death of Cinema and My Father Too, which was presented at Cannes in 2020. His film The Vanishing Soldier was presented at Locarno in 2023.
