(2025, Italy, France, 120')
The story at the centre of the series recounts one of the most controversial legal cases in recent Italian history, known as the “Tortora Case”. In the early 1980s, famous television presenter Enzo Tortora was accused by several state witnesses of being part of a Camorra criminal organization responsible for international drug trafficking. He was fully acquitted by the Italian Court of Appeal in 1986. Following this, Tortora became politically active in advocating for prisoners’ rights, pursuing a parliamentary career alongside his television work. In this series, Tortora is portrayed by Fabrizio Gifuni.
Marco Bellocchio made his debut in 1965 with Fists in the Pocket and is now considered one of the great masters of Italian cinema. In Venice, where he presented another film based on major Italian news (Good Morning, Night) in 2003, he received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2011. He has appeared multiple times at Cannes (Sweet Dreams in 2016, The Traitor in 2019, and Kidnapped in 2023), and was awarded the Honorary Palme d’Or in 2021.
