The vacuous and cruel Queen V harbors a consuming passion for her irresponsible fiancé, Prince Wolfram. When this dissolute nobleman meets the pretty orphan Patricia (Kitty) Kelly, he falls in love, triggering a long series of entanglements.
Presented in a world premiere in a version restored thanks to newly discovered footage, the unfinished film reunites the great director Erich von Stroheim and Gloria Swanson, the unforgettable star of Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard (in which von Stroheim played the faithful butler). With Eli Denson’s new original score, performed live by the Syntax Ensemble.
