di Ross McElwee

(2025, USA, 114')

Ross McElwee’s 1986 Sherman’s March was dubbed “A meditation on the possibility of romantic love in the South during an era of nuclear weapons proliferation.” This year’s Venice film is a response to Howard Weinstein’s long-ago proposal to remake it, and a reflection on the power of images and the premature death of McElwee’s son Adrian in 2016, who appeared in several of his documentaries.

Ross McElwee

A cult figure in American independent cinema, McElwee is a renowned documentarian who often works solo. His films usually stem from his personal life, such as In Paraguay (2008), a travel diary about adopting his daughter Mariah. McElwee teaches documentary filmmaking at Harvard University.
