(1941, Usa, 125')
Inspired by the Spanish novel of the same name by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, the story told by Rouben Mamoulian in the film Blood and Sand is a reinterpretation of the famous 1922 silent film starring Rudolph Valentino. In this version, Tyrone Power delivers a magnificent performance as the handsome matador Juan Gallardo. The plot follows Gallardo’s rise to wealth and fame, after which he becomes the target of a ruthless aristocrat’s attention. Succumbing to her temptations, Juan realizes his mistake and tries to reconcile with his wife.
