The lives of a Tibetan father and son unfold uneventfully. They raise sheep in a wild, unwelcoming environment, which they know well and learnt to respect. One day, a snow leopard begins attacking their sheep, and their relationship is fractured. The father would want to leave the incident behind and let the leopard free. He won’t want to alter the natural balance. The son, on the contrary, is eager to get justice and kill the leopard.
Pema Tseden, universally considered the most important Tibetan filmmaker, died last May. His Jinpa earned the Best Screenplay Award at the Orizzonti section of the VFF in 2018. The next year, Pema Tseden participated with Balloon, again in the Orizzonti section. Formerly a public servant and teacher, the filmmaker, author, and screenwriter was the first Tibetan student to graduate at the Cinema School in Beijing.
