Over the course of two years, filmmaker Olha Zhurba has documented the profound changes in Ukrainian society, overwhelmed by the abyss of war, in which the initial panic and terror turn into an acceptance of destruction and death, which become tragic normality. In this bleak context, Zhurba succeeds in bringing out the voices of those living through the horrors of war, offering a new perspective that cannot be ignored.
Ukrainian director and screenwriter Olha Zhurba has won numerous international awards, including the award for Best Ukrainian Short Film, the FIPRESCI award at the Odessa Film Festival and the Kinokolo National Film Critics’ Award, thanks to her fiction short film Dad’s Sneakers (2021) nominated for the 2022 European Film Awards. His debut documentary Outside (2022) won the Willy Brandt Award at the Human Rights Film Festival in Berlin. Zhurba is also notable for making award-winning documentaries such as This Rain Will Never Stop (2021) and Home Games (2018).
